On Friday night, Bowers got a good jump off the gate and began pacing the leader looking for an opportunity to pass. On the 17th lap Bowers capitalized on a mistake and made an easy pass which he converted to a win eight laps later. Bowers got another good start on Saturday, made a pass for the lead on the sixth lap, and checked out for the win. His performance over the weekend propelled him back to the top of the standings with a series leading six wins.

“I was able to execute the plan I set for the weekend and took back the points lead,” said Bowers. “I have been working hard on improving my starts and it has been paying off. I got great starts on my 2012 KX250F both nights and was able to convert them to wins. The track really was the best it’s been all season, the whoops were big, there were good berms, and the rhythm sections were challenging which made for great racing. On Saturday, I was able to take advantage of the whoops section to pull into the lead. I paced the leader for six laps then as he was jumping through the whoops I just pinned it and skimmed on past him and checked out to take my second win of the weekend.”

Since Johnson has climbed aboard the new 2012 KX250F, his performance has been steadily improving. On Friday, Johnson got a good start and moved into the number three spot where he remained until the checkered flag. On Saturday, he got a mid-pack start and worked his way into fourth place before the finish. His solid performance over the course of the weekend left him third in the points.

“It went okay for me this weekend,” said Johnson. “My bike was working really good and made the technical track fun to ride. The dirt was really hardpacked and there weren’t enough ruts to work with so I was having a difficult time setting up the corners how I would have liked. I need to continue gaining points so I can keep moving up the leaderboard.”

In Saturday night’s Dash for Cash, Bowers took a crash that shocked everyone in the arena. Although the incident appeared to have the potential to end Bower’s season early, he was able to collect himself and was back on the track in time for qualifying. Despite taking the worst crash since his season ending crash in 2010, Bowers went on to win the main event the same night.

“In the Dash for Cash I took a pretty big spill in one of the rhythm sections,” said Bowers. “I had to ditch the bike in the air and wadded up pretty good. Luckily I landed on the downside of the transition and slid down the landing of the jump instead of landing in the flat section. Our crew did an amazing job of putting the bike back together in time for qualifying. After the crash my body was hurting pretty bad, I was feeling it every jump. Although I was really sore going into the main event I just put my head down and got it done. I’m really happy I made it through the weekend unscathed after that big crash and was still able to take home the win the same night.”

Next weekend Babbitt’s Monster Energy Amsoil Kawasaki’s Arenacross team heads to the Kansas Expocenter in Topeka, Kan., for Round 6 of the 2012 AMA Arenacross series. As the series reaches the halfway point, Bowers looks to extend his points lead while teammate Johnson has set his sights on the runner-up spot in the standings

“It was a great weekend for Team Babbitt’s,” said Team Manager Denny Bartz. “Tyler (Bowers) again proved to be the fastest guy on his 2012 KX250F. It was really impressive to see Tyler take the win on Saturday night after suffering a pretty big crash during the Dash for Cash. We weren’t sure if we were going to get the bike fixed in time for qualifying, but our team pulled it off. Our goal is to continue to stay healthy and to finish the season with the number one and two spots in the championship.”
